Residual Magic
Newsletter
1. Welcome Welcome to the first 2010 edition of the Residual Magic newsletter. Here's wishing you a very healthy, happy and prosperous year. I hope you find a nugget or two here.
The theme this month is what to look for in a home-based business - and the best way of illustrating that is with real example so I do once again cover Breeze because it illustrates the point well. If you are actively looking for another income stream I can definitely help you - phone or Email me anytime. All the best Richard Wall, North Yorkshire, UK. 2. Quotes of the month "The trick is learning to
maintain an unwavering focus upon your desired end result, your
completed dream, the 'finish line', without insisting upon, or even
contemplating, its means of attainment, no matter how logical, obvious,
or tempting it may seem." One of the most tragic
things I know about human nature is that all of us tend to put off
living. We are all dreaming of some magical rose garden over the
horizon, instead of enjoying the roses that are blooming outside our
windows today." “Success is not final,
failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts." "I couldn't be more
excited about this economic upheaval, because times of great change, are
times of great opportunity." 3. Six Essentials for Success One of the iLearningGlobal Faculty members Bill Bartmann - also known as 'the unknown billionaire' - has a powerful rags to riches story. Bill's 6 essentials for success apply to any business and to life generally however they especially apply to the home based business market:
One exception though if you are involved in MLM: if you have chosen the wrong opportunity, getting up off the couch and quitting is the best advice I can give you. Just never give up on yourself. Many people in MLM are brainwashed into believing that 'quitters never win and winners never quit.' Very bad advice a lot of the time.
4. How to spot a scam or dodgy opportunity Are you like me and being bombarded daily with 'business opportunity Emails?" I'm not looking for another income stream so I usually just hit the delete key and don't waste time. However I do open some of them just to see what is out there. Most home-based business opportunities coming in 'cold' via Email will undoubtedly be rubbish. Even many of the personalised "Dear Richard" ones are rubbish and most fall into the illegal category. (If you are not familiar with Pyramid Selling etc. I cover that in my eBook and also here: www.interimcareersolutions.com/web/page_pyramid_selling.html). You can spot the dodgy ones a mile away... the golden rules are 'what are the products?' and 'do at least some people buy them without being interested in (or even better, without being aware of) the business opportunity?' Many of them don't have products or, with smoke and mirrors, have overpriced products to make it look above board. And none of the dodgy ones have a refund policy. I had an Email last week which illustrates well what to steer clear of; it was from Simon Johansson who has a high profile on the Internet as someone who has made a lot of money in dodgy business opportunities, usually at the expense of a lot more people losing money. This is the headline for the latest venture:
Hmm... $20,000 into your bank account every month at the push of a button... sounds great. Count me in! The sales letter is excellent and will pull a lot of people in. However once the excitement dies down and you've paid your one-off $249, how do you make money? By selling the opportunity. The product is the opportunity to make money - it's just a money game, money circulation scheme etc. One of the legal terms here in the UK to describe 'schemes' like these is 'bound to fail' because in theory they would eventually run out of people. Well it's only $249 and "what's the harm?" you might say - it's a bit of fun... a gamble. Well that's fine if people getting into these schemes know what they are getting into. However the vast majority of people won't refer anyone (or the company will get closed down) and so the last people in or those not yet in profit will lose money and they have nothing to show for it. If any of these opportunities get big it's just a matter of time before they get closed down - just like PAS did which Simon was heavily promoting a few years ago. 5. Breeze Update Much of the value I might have for people looking for another income stream is my experience. I've had successes in home-based businesses, however it is often the ones that didn't work out for me which have been the best lessons. 3 years with Breeze has also been a powerful lesson with a few bumps in the road. The Breeze products in the early days 'good enough' to drive the opportunity. They have since been added to greatly and they are now better than good enough. However one of the challenges we have had a common mistake: we have contaminated the product for a lot of people by also also giving the 'be a squillionaire' message. It's the same with iLearningGlobal (see Video of the Month in next section.) Breeze now has a track record with a number of solid product only stories and subscribers who recommend the products without in some cases even knowing there is an income opportunity - so we can now market the products and the opportunity separately. If you've looked at Breeze in the past or if you are involved and need an update we have done a PDF overview of the subscriber benefits. There is brief mention at the end that there is an income opportunity however it is not enough to put off those of a nervous disposition. It's not MLM and has the rare ability to generate you a healthy income in the first weeks and months. See the link below to see how Breeze might be able to help you:
6. Video of the month - Positive Focus by Lee Brower Following on from the above caution about scams, iLearningGlobal is another great example of a business opportunity where the product itself is all about helping people be more successful. Just like with Breeze, we have a retail strategy as well as an opportunity strategy to avoid putting off people who run a mile at even a hint of an affiliate programme, making money etc. The recommended video this month is on the iLearningGlobal sample video page which is on the product only site where there is no mention of the money making side... not even a whiff of being a squillionaire. Although at the time of writing there are 8 sample videos on the sample videos page start with the one at the bottom of the page: Positive Focus by Lee Brower. It's just 10 minutes long and has potentially life-changing advice: 7. Keep your social networking personal I've been a great fan and paid up member of Ecademy.com for a few years now. It's a very good online network and it works. However as Ecademy grows it does have an increasingly annoying side, just like Twitter, Facebook and all the others. I now get so many standard Ecademy messages saying "Please look at my Marketplace Listing" which are system generated, so there is no personal touch. So in effect they are little better than SPAM so I delete most of them without clicking on the link. It's the same with Twitter. Getting an Email saying 'Fred Bloggs is following you on Twitter' is not very intimate. More about Twitter in future issues... What I do read on Ecademy are the "Hi Richard, I saw your profile and I see we have some common ground - I'm also involved with personal development, I also like curry, we also have a black Labrador etc." And I send my Ecademy messages accordingly i.e. personal and tailored to who I am sending to. The same advice goes to any social networking sites: 'keep your messages to other members personal' and show a genuine interest in people so you can develop a relationship and degree of trust before you start 'selling.'
